He even talked to the devs of Celeste and asked permission before making this, showing them early protypes/demos and letting them know that Celeste was a major inspiration. The dev spent a significant amount of time making this (I believe something like 2 years) and it hasn't sold amazingly well. Play more games in this genre and you might learn how to distinguish between the best games in the genre, good games in the genre, and games that are not as fun as the rest. His hrly return is probably lower than minimum wage, so grow up, and stop this toxic thing that so many uninformed and ignorant ppl are doing, which is calling every game that comes out a clone or money grab. It's unbelievably dumb to call a game made by a dev that loves this genre, loves Celeste, and just wanted to create a game that was influenced by his favorite games, especially when he didn't make much money at all form this game. Sunblaze has different jump heights, different sizing of rooms, and places far greater emphasis on specific prioritization (which is why he describes at as more puzzler than Celeste). However, every single one has something that makes it unique. I say this as someone that has reviewed about 40-50 different precision platformers on steam and what I noticed was that every single one shared some things from others in the genre. I suspect that you have played at most 3 total precision platformers. This is such a dumb and ignorant thing to say. But there comes a point when a game being sold at 75% the price of the original game gets so close to be more than just inspired where it feels dirty to me I do not refer to this game as a clone the levels, music, and assets are different. There’s no denying the inspiration, but it has its own feel to it (see the “Setting It Apart” section for more on that), custom levels, different art style, original music, etc." Wave mode was added in November 2014 to GD. It has mechanics identical to wave mode in Geometry Dash. I looked up it, his old game Zig Zag Boom was published in January 2015. For example a quote from his statement about the fireball mechanic "So I basically added an idea from an old game of mine, and somehow I was ripping off Celeste again :) I chalk this up to Celeste doing so much." It's priced almost the same as Celeste and makes no indication on the store page acknowledging those similarities.Īlso the developer isn't truthful in this blog post. I'm reading through this and it really does feel like this should have just been a free fan game or made different. Originally posted by Moon and Star:this post might give you some insight: If the game was free or it's influence was made explicit I would be more understanding, but overall it seems like everyone is in a weird state of defending this game like it's a completely original indie masterpiece I ask because this game just feels like a blatant ripoff of Celeste or at the very least a cash grab for fans of Celeste. CT gamemode which neither CoD nor Battlefield really have. Then CS is completely different as it's a competitive shooter based on different mechanics for aiming more accurately and many weapons doing near instant headshots for those most skilled. CoD and Battlefield are slightly similar, but Battlefield focuses on larger maps and more war style gameplay where as CoD does more closed in smaller maps with more variety in gamemodes. Duke Nukem was actually made in a 3D engine so you could look up and down, plus it had the entire comedic aspect of the game. Doom had way more items and weapons along with enemy variety compared to Wolfenstein 3D. The games that you listed at the very least add new stuff to their genres. The game even has similar physics to Celeste. Even down to the grabbing walls, climbing, and single air jump. I just ask because the game has the exact same art style and gameplay as Celeste. The formulae just gets improved upon, FF for example gets ripped off all the time, nobody cares.ĭoom, Duke Nukem, Wolvenstein, Cod, BF, Counterstrike.Ĭome on man.
